C’era una volta il rock poi il post-rock ed infine il post post-rock….Ci sbagliavamo (se vi interessa l’articolo “incriminato” lo trovate qui) non è solo una questione di “etichetta”, col senno di un “poi” è proprio perché il rock è definitivamente morto (lo si può sempre “riesumare” e tirarci fuori un bell’album ma il sapore resta quello…“posticcio”, fuori tempo massimo). Questi ragazzi (da Glagow o Glagów, Polonia qui al loro Ep di debutto dopo una manciata di singoli) suonano qualcosa che si può chiamare/definire ancora rock ma che non ha niente di posticcio….e c’è un perché. La prima cosa che ci ha colpito è stata l’artwork (questa e quella dei singoli), non sappiamo chi ne sia l’autore/autrice ma sono di una bellezza spiazzante, molto “progressive” (no no, i Red Pine Mushroom non suonano propriamente prog ma queste “copertine” ben si adattano alla loro musica)…Rock, strumentale (se un’assenza di voce sia un “male” o meno giudicatelo voi), l’intro Bla|ma e la sua reprise Bla||ma sono giusto due “parentesi introduttive” molto ambient…portate pazienza, il vero sound di questo Vagrant esploderà in tutta la sua potenza nelle restanti tracce, in Horseman una ballad desert-rock di scuola Pink Floyd (Ummagumma, Live At Pompeii), nei tratti oriented-rock di A Land Of Dunes, nell’incedere doom oscuro e granitico di Moth e nella conclusiva William Blake’s Death dall’incedere lisergico, solenne e malinconico e sì un grande pezzo. No non hanno bisogno di una “voce” questi ragazzi, solo di un “palco/live” e che poi si tratti di rock, di post-rock o di post post-rock non ce ne può fregare di meno…affascina ed intriga (forse perché in un quotidiano scorrere ne avevamo perse le “coordinate”). Da Roots! è tutto e come sempre buon ascolto (qui).

Once upon a time there was rock, then post-rock and finally post post-rock….We were wrong (if you are interested in the offending article you can find it here) it is not just a question of “etiquette”, in hindsight of a “then” it is precisely because rock is definitively dead (you can always “exhume” it and make a good album out of it but the taste remains the same …”fake”, out of time). These guys (from Glagow or Glagów, Poland here on their debut Ep after a handful of singles) play something that can still be called/defined as rock but which has nothing fake about it….and there’s a why. The first thing that struck us was the artwork (this and that of the singles), we don’t know who the author is but they are of a surprising beauty, very “progressive” (no no, Red Pine Mushroom sound roperly prog but these “covers” are well suited to their music)…Rock, instrumental (if an absence of voice is a “bad” or not judge it for yourself), the intro Bla|ma and its reprise Bla||ma are just two very ambient “introductory parentheses”…be patient, the real sound of this Vagrant will explode in all its power in the remaining tracks, in Horseman a desert-rock ballad from the Pink Floyd school (Ummagumma, Live At Pompeii), in the oriented-rock traits of A Land Of Dunes, in the dark and granitic doom of Moth and in the final William Blake’s Death with its lysergic, solemn and melancholic gait and yes, a great piece. No, these guys don’t need a “voice”, just a “stage/live” and whether it’s rock, post-rock or post post-rock, we couldn’t care less…it fascinates and intrigues (perhaps because in a daily scrolling we had lost the “coordinates”).
