Da Tucson, Arizona e lasciatecelo dire ma questo “ragazzo” (a 29 anni cosa si è oggi??) ha talento, classe ed eleganza da vendere (speriamo non solo “commerciale”). The Color Of Sound se non ci sbagliamo dovrebbe essere il suo terzo ed ultimo lavoro e così ad orecchio ci sembra anche quello di una raggiunta maturazione artistica (ma tutta in un possibile ancora divenire)……Kareem compone, suona (la tromba), arrangia, campiona e registra tutto di suo pugno regalandoci un bell’album di jazz ambient-lounge-chillout molto “easy” e dalle atmosfere alla Miles Davis (il suo ultimo e controverso Doo Bop) ed è un bel sentire anche se i puristi del jazz avranno (giustamente o meno) di che storcere il naso (ma qui aspettiamo Kareem al varco….ad un osare oltre). Le bellissime A Day In Zanzibar e I Tried To Tell You, Please, Forever Keep Me Near, Rise Up, Sky Harbor, il breve (troppo breve) omaggio a Miles in Word To Miles sono tutti brani che vi faranno sì ballare ma in una empatia diversa (tradotto non cafona) e comunque è un album che lo si ascolta anche senza il bisogno di dover necessariamente ballare…”suona” bene e non abbiamo dubbi Miles Davis avrebbe approvato senza riserve. In attesa di un seguito (e di quell’osare in più) da Roots! è tutto e come sempre buon ascolto (qui o qui).

From Tucson, Arizona and let us tell you but this “boy” (at 29 what is he today??) has talent, class and elegance to spare (hopefully not only commercial). If we are not mistaken, The Color Of Sound should be his third and last work and so by ear it also seems to us that of an artistic maturation (but all in a possible still becoming) …… Kareem composes, plays (the trumpet), arranges, samples and records everything in his own hand, giving us a beautiful album of very “easy” ambient-lounge-chillout jazz with Miles Davis-like atmospheres (his latest and controversial Doo Bop) and it’s nice to hear even if jazz purists will (rightly or not) have something to turn up their noses at (but here we are waiting for Kareem at the gate …. to dare further). The beautiful A Day In Zanzibar and I Tried To Tell You, Please, Forever Keep Me Near, Rise Up, Sky Harbor, the short (too short) tribute to Miles in Word To Miles are all songs that will make you dance, but in one different empathy (translated not peasant) and in any case it is an album that can be listened to even without necessarily having to dance…”it sounds” good and we have no doubts Miles Davis would have approved. Looking forward to a sequel (with that extra daring) from Roots! that’s all and as always good listening (here or here).
