Anla Courtis And Stefan Neville – Roots Of A Knob

Ecco quell’album che non lo si può solo ascoltare ma che necessita di essere “assorbito”, una eventuale (e probabile) difficoltà di ascolto sta solo in questo; dimenticatevi la classica forma-canzone od una concezione di Musica prettamente occidentale, Anla Courtis (già nei Reynols, ne parliamo qui) e Stefan Neville (Teen-X-Ray e Pumice) si spingono oltre fino a ri-creare un flusso sonoro unico che riesce a farsi respiro/canto/preghiera e “carico” di questo fottuto mondo. Roots Of A Knob (brano che darà il titolo a questo Ep pubblicato per la Soft Abuse Records di Minneapolis) rende al meglio questa sensazione “onirica”, suoni acustici-ambient, ritmiche “sovrapposte” dall’incedere lento ed etereo, una melodia, bellissima, scandita dalla chitarra che si ripete come un mantra perso alla memoria, un bel sentire ma va anche detto che questa è la traccia più facilmente assimilabile; Gravel + Gravy fonde insieme melodie indiane ed atmosfere jazz-ambient, a voi il piacere di scoprirla nella sua interezza mentre Sabotaged Piñata ha uno svolgersi più plumbeo e surreale, un sogno-incubo privo di ritmica se non fosse per quel ticchettio di orologio che vi porterà alla sua (e di questo mondo?) fine. A concludere la bella Slow Motion Soup, più elettrica, un quasi rock-lisergico di scuola anni ‘70 ma sempre evanescente, sempre un sogno, un “viaggio” oltre. Un viaggio che termina qui e che ci lascia sospesi, senza null’altro aggiungere, il resto dipende da un proprio personale “sentire”; vorremmo potervi raccontare altro ma abbiamo i nostri limiti, quel poco che possiamo dirvi è che questo Roots Of A Knob (a proposito, disponibile anche nella “mitica” audiocassetta) è un ascoltare “diverso”, di cristallina bellezza ma che necessita di un entrarci/aprirsi non semplice (soprattutto di questi tempi e lo comprendiamo) ma che lo merita. Here is that album that you can’t just listen to but that needs to be “absorbed”, one any (and probable) difficulty in listening lies only in this; forget the classic form-song or a purely western concept of music, Anla Courtis (formerly in the Reynols, here) and Stefan Neville (Teen-X-Ray and Pumice) go further to re-create a unique sonic flow that manages to get breath / song / prayer and “load” of this fucking world. Roots Of A Knob (track which will give the title to this Ep published for Soft Abuse Records of Minneapolis) is at its best this “dreamlike” sensation, acoustic-ambient sounds, “overlapping” rhythms with a slow pace and ethereal, a melody, beautiful, punctuated by the guitar that is repeated like a mantra lost to memory, a good feeling but it must also be said that this is the most easily assimilated trace; Gravel + Gravy blends together Indian melodies and jazz-ambient atmospheres, the pleasure of discover it in its entirety while Sabotaged Piñata has a more leaden and surreal unfolding, a dream-nightmare devoid of rhythm if it were not for that ticking of the clock that will take you to his (and of this world?) end. To conclude the beautiful Slow Motion Soup, more electric, an almost rock-lysergic from the 1970s school but always evanescent, always a dream, a “journey” beyond. A journey that ends here and leaves us suspended, without adding anything else, the rest depends on a own personal “feel”; we would like to be able to tell you more but we have our limits, that little that we can tell you is that this Roots Of A Knob (by the way, also available in the “mythical” audiocassette) is a “different” listening, of crystalline beauty but which needs to enter / open up not simple (especially these days and we understand it) but it deserves it.
