Alan Courtis & David Grubbs – Braintrust Of Fiends And Werewolves
(2023, Husky Pants Records)
by Simone Rossetti

Alan Courtis & David Grubbs – Braintrust Of Fiends And Werewolves
(2023, Husky Pants Records)
by Simone Rossetti
Alan Courtis, Argentine guitarist and composer (we met him in Reynols but the amount of projects under his name and collaborations is practically infinite) and David Grubbs (do Squirrel Bait tell you anything?? …so much history but so much). We don’t deny that “getting there/entering” wasn’t easy (nothing particularly “difficult” but more due to its intimate beauty), not for all occasions, not for these times accustomed to another “feeling”, not for this shit of the world…or maybe yes. 2 guitars (alternatively electric and acoustic) to redefine “ambient-noise-rock” spaces in an almost “circular” but continually evolving path….Total absence of rhythm section, a very “free” harmonic flow, post-jazz , post-hardcore, post-contemporary music, a post-nothingness torn by noise interferences reaching towards something else (Hinterhalt, Song Of A Fence Grown Through A Tree and Airborne Particles Of The California Central Valley) while Room Tone Of One’s Own, Varsovia Y Esparta and Braintrust Of Fiends And Werewolves will “sound” to you sweeter, melancholic and ethereal but “distant”, forgetfulness, oblivion. From Roots! that’s all (the rest is up to you) and enjoy listening (here).
